An innovator who came of age in mid-20th century New York and whose work was rooted in Abstract Expressionism, American artist Helen Frankenthaler experimented with abstract painting over a decades-long career. Elizabeth Smith, art historian and Executive Director of the New York-based Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, will discuss the evolution of Frankenthaler’s artistic practice, considering the influences that shaped her as well as ways in which her work has influenced artists in her own time and now.
