100 Best Posters 18
Museum Folkwang presents the exhibition 100 Best Posters 18: Germany Austria Switzerland. The show features the best entries from the largest annual poster competition in the German-speaking world. Since 2008, it has been shown regularly at Museum Folkwang, and provides a comprehensive overview of current poster design. The international jury consisted of Anette Lenz (Paris), Anna Haas (Zurich), Astrid Seme (Vienna), Johanna Siebein and Andrea Tinnes (both Berlin).
A total of 2,353 posters were submitted for the 2018 competition. 294 individual posters and 117 series made it into the final. The 100 posters and series selected by the jury came from Germany (42 nominations), Switzerland (54 nominations) and Austria (4 nominations). With the exception of a few student projects, the majority were commissioned works.
A number of the winning posters have particularly experimental and creative designs. A stark fea-ture of the 2018 competition is the fact that more and more, text is becoming part of the image, or rather, its forms are being incorporated into the overall composition. This is a direct continuation of the trends that could be discerned in 2017, where there was already a strong hint of a shift towards text-based posters. In 2018, by means of photography, illustration and the use of colour, the posters feature a broad spectrum of variations, ranging from experimental work to classical design. As in the previous year, 19 posters have been digitally animated. Audiences can experience them in motion with the Artivive App (free of charge on Google Play (Android) or in the APP Store (iOS)).
