Jesper Just

A Voyage in Dwelling, 2008

In his films, Danish artist Jesper Just (b. 1974) tells emotionally charged stories somewhere between reality and fiction. He engages professional actors and has them perform in places reminiscent of well-known motifs from the history of the cinema. He uses camerawork, the editing process and film music as methods of filmic design, similarly to the great Hollywood movies. This makes for an emotional impact, one it is difficult not to be affected by. A Voyage in Dwelling is the first part of the trilogy in which the artist takes us on a magical journey starting in the undergrowth of an island in the middle of the sea and ending on a large ocean-going steamer.
