NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND, 2016, 13’23’’
The film Notes from Underground was developed in collaboration with the artist’s neighbour and depicts the daily life of a character who is running away from a frustrating reality. Deluded by social roles and human relations, frightened by riots and military unrest in the country, this person lives in seclusion in his apartment. The dense space is built from photographic material and CGI that resembles a Noah’s Ark, but instead of animals it is filled with all kinds of food, objects and belongings.
ULI GOLUB, *1990 in Kharkiv, studied at Moscow’s Rodchenko School for Photography and Multimedia and is interested in Soviet science fiction, futuriusm and eco-feminism. Her practice addresses questions such as “Can filmmaking be a practice of hospitality?” and combines documentary-everyday motifs with the glitch aesthetics of digital tools. Numerous major galleries and museums, for instance the Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius, have presented Golub’s work, and she has been featured in articles in Blok Magazine, Happening, and ARTFORUM.
