Dealing with Photographs. analyze.archive.historicize.construct.shoot.guilt.
Photographic images surround us. We all live and deal with them every day, whether consciously and intentionally or not. New ways of using and interacting with photography are constantly being developed. Likewise, the values and meanings attached to photographs change when they are transferred to new contexts. For a characterization of photography, it therefore seems promising to take a closer look at the verbs associated with it. Whether to analyze, archive, historicize, construct, shoot or to perceive guilt: in a one-day academic workshop, photography – understood as a set of practices – will be questioned from very different perspectives. In six interactive short lectures, current research projects will be presented and put up for discussion.
In addition, the Berlin-based artist Viktoria Binschtok and Prof. Dr. Burcu Dogramaci, Professor of Art History at the LMU Munich, have been invited for a discussion. Viktoria Binschtok negotiates image sources and economies in her works when, for example, she transfers the algorithmically determined associations of digital image search engines from a virtual to a physical space in her series Cluster. In her research project METROMOD, Burcu Dogramaci maps the networks of exiled artists in the first half of the 20 th century. Among other things, her focus is on image and exhibition practices that have developed from these experiences.
The public Workshop is organized by students of the academic master’s program on the theory and history of photography M. A. Photography Studies and Research. Conceived and realized by Dortje Fink, Tabea Funke, Sarah Gramotke, Deborah Herber, Malte Radtki and Meike Reiners.
Participation free of charge. Without registration.
