Ŝablono – New collection presentation in the Helmet

In 2014, the artist collective Los Carpinteros created Helm/Helmet/Yelmo, an exhibition space for a special collection area at Museum Folkwang. This collection comprises craft and sculptural objects, many of them from non-European contexts, and was built up by Karl Ernst Osthaus from 1898 onwards. In cooperation with the Olbricht Collection, the current presentation focuses on vessels whose designs are based on patterns of regular structures. The designs range from minimalist to highly elaborate decorations, which often utilise the material properties for graphic effects. Bastian Muhr was commissioned by the museum to condense the patterns and structures into four symbols that form a flowing graphic movement as the wall piece ŝablono.
